a story that is made up or not true (imagined)
What is fiction?
a message about life and human behavior that an author expresses in a text

poetry that does not rhyme or follow a regular meter

a belief, judgment or thought about something or someone
What is an opinion?
the central idea in a story or text; what a text is mostly about
What is main idea?
information that is true (think not fake)
What is nonfiction?
a warning or indication of a future event
a very short form of ancient Japanese poetry; it has three lines and follows a syllable format of 5-7-5
What is a haiku?
in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another
What is bias?
a list of all the big topics or chapters in a book in the order they’ll be presented
What is the table of contents?
a type of fiction that has characters, places, and events that do not and could not exist in the real world (think magic, ghosts, monsters)
What is fantasy?
use of an object or word to represent an abstract idea
What is symbolism?
poem of praise, and it can be written to an object or a person
What is an ode?
to restate a spoken or written passage using different words
What is to paraphrase?
a list of technical or special words and with their definitions in a book, usually found at the end of the boo
What is a glossary?
provides factual information about a person’s life. It is written in third person (not by the person that the book is about).
What is biography?
the writer or speaker's attitude toward the subject
What is tone?
the pattern of rhymes in a poem or song, usually at the ends of lines. Sometimes indicated by letters that show which lines rhyme, like abab
What is rhyme scheme?
the idea or feeling (usually positive, negative, or neutral) a word or phrase suggests but does not literally mean.
What is connotation?
a word or phrase that is placed at the top of a piece of writing and gives it a title
What is a heading?
a type of fiction that seeks to explain the beginnings of the world, nature, natural phenomena, or human behavior
What is a myth?
extreme exaggeration
What is hyperbole?
a poem that is 14 lines long and is written in iambic pentameter
What is a sonnet?
an argument (point/reason/view/evidence) that your opponent would make
What is a counterargument?
an alphabetical list of specific information that can be found in a book and the page number to find it. It is usually found at the end of a book
