What is a narrative?
When the story is told to "you". Not common in fiction.
What is second person?
A struggle between two forces.
What is conflict.
The message about life and human nature the author is sharing with the reader. (main idea)
What is the theme?
The main idea or lesson the author is trying to get across to the reader.
What is the message?
Written conversation between two or more characters.
What is dialogue?
When "I" am telling the story.
What is first-person?
To separate or break into parts and examine.
What is to analyze?
Where and when the story is happening.
What is setting?
Great or important.
What is significant?
Words that may not literally mean what they say.
What is figurative language?
When the story is about "he/she" but the narrator knows all the thoughts and experiences in the story.
What is third-person omniscient?
The reason why the author wrote the text; to inform, to persuade, or to entertain.
What is the author's purpose?
The way an author organizes their text to improve comprehension.
What is text structure?
Take individual pieces of information and combine them in order to gain a better understanding of a subject.
What is synthesize?
Language that adds purpose and emotion to text.
What is descriptive language?
When the story is about "he/she".
What is third-person limited?
Words or phrases surrounding a word that provide hints about the word’s meaning.
What are context clues?
How the author or piece of writing feels.
What is the tone?
Compare two unlike things using like or as
“Her hand is as cold as ice”
What is a simile?
"How come you are making a face?"
What is an idiom? (figurative language)

What is first-person?
The most important idea about a topic that the writer is trying to show.
What is the main idea?
Contrast between what is expected and what actually exists or happens.
What is irony?
A group of words that’s meaning is different from the ordinary meaning of the word. The context can help you understand. Ex: “Put a lid on it".
