What is a metaphor?
the series of related events that make up a story
What is the plot?
the uncertainty or anxiety that a reader feels about what will happen next in a story, novel, or drama
What is suspense?
an expression peculiar to a particular language that means something different from the literal meaning of the words. ie. It's raining cats and dogs.
What is an idiom?
conversation between two or more characters
What is dialogue?
The giving of clues to hint at something still to come later in the plot.
What is foreshadowing?
a character who changes as a result of the story's events
What is a dynamic character?
the overall feeling of a work of literature - how it makes you feel
What is mood?
interruption in the present action of a plot to show events that happened at an earlier time
What is flashback?
A character who remains the same in the story.
What is a static character?
the general idea or insight about life that a work of literature reveals
What is the theme?
involves a contrast between what is said or written and what is really meant
What is verbal irony?
The part of the play where Anne's voice joins Mr. Frank's in reading her diary and takes us to the past is called this.
What is a flashback?
the attitude a writer takes toward his or her subject, characters, and audience. ie. The Holocaust is unfair and wrong.
What is tone?
occurs when the audience or the reader knows something the character does not know
