AP Test Components
This section of the test has three essay questions of different types, takes 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete, and is worth 55% of your test score.
What is the Free Response Question section? Each essay takes approximately 40 minutes to complete, with the synthesis essay having an extra 15 minutes for reading sources.
This type of essay includes a thesis that takes an original position on a topic using evidence gathered from at least 3 out of 6-7 provided sources. It is not the same thing as a DBQ.
What is Synthesis?

What is the Raven?
This type of essay is typically completed in the span of 40 minutes (with an additional 15 minutes for reading sources if applicable).
What are timed essays? These are completed within the class period, so you do not have to worry about them outside of school or deal with homework, and they typically do not impact your grade that significantly.
