A student was walking to Phy Ed and then got into an altercation about personal space with a peer, and they started kicking each other. The student also grabbed the arm of the peer and left a red mark.

What should the student do to fix this?

Stop and Take Responsibility: No blaming.

Apologize Sincerely: “I’m sorry for hurting you. That wasn’t okay.”

Accept Consequences.

Make a Repair Plan: Give the student space, use a safe body, and follow expectations moving forward.

100

What would you do if your teacher told you take off your hat in school and put it away, but you did not want to?

Take the hat off and put it in my backpack.

If your teacher was showing a video about Martin Luther King Jr., should you start chanting "Trump, Trump, Trump"?

Disrupts the educational environment for others.

Disrespectful for the honoree.

100

You are standing in line and have the urge to jump on someone's back.

How would you prevent yourself from acting on it?

Think About Consequences: Could someone get hurt? Would I get in trouble?

Regulate the Urge: Take 3 slow breaths. Step back to give space. Put your hands in your pockets.

Use Self-Talk:
“I don’t have to do every thought I have.”
“Keep it safe.”

“You’re lazy. You never do anything.”

“I feel overwhelmed when I do all the work because I want us to share the job. Can you help with this part?”

You and a student got in a fight at recess. You both want to play a different game and are arguing about it.

How would you resolve this fairly?

**Compromise**

Split the time for each game.

Play 1 game today, and the other tomorrow.

200

What would you do if a classmate was irritating you at recess, constantly following you around, and trying to force you to play with them?

I would use "I" statements to get the student to stop.

OR-

Tell an adult if your attempts did not work.

200

If your teacher was teaching a lesson, should you interrupt to tell a story about something unrelated that happened over the weekend?

Why or Why not?

No.

When a teacher is teaching, our job is to listen and learn.

If we have a story that doesn’t match the lesson, we can pause it in our brain and save it for later.

200

The teacher is telling a story in class, and you want to interrupt by blurting out something funny.

How would you stop yourself?

Ask Yourself One Question: “Is this the right time?”

Save It for Later: Write it on a sticky note. Whisper it in your head. Tell yourself: “I’ll save that for recess.”

Take a Quick Breath: That 3–5 seconds helps your brain catch up to your impulse.

300

“What is your problem? You’re so mean!”

“I feel embarrassed when you laugh at my answer because I’m trying my best. Please don’t laugh.”

300

Get off the Chromebook.

To respect the teacher.

To show I can follow directions.

To prevent getting in trouble.

300

If you are playing cards with 2 other students, should you take turns shuffling and dealing the cards?

Why or Why not?

Yes.

  • Everyone gets a chance to participate.

  • It prevents arguments.

  • It shows respect for others.

  • It helps everyone feel included.

300

You want to blurt out to everyone that you have a crush on someone?

How can you control this urge?

Think to yourself: "Would Mr. Hinker want me to do that?" "Will it embarrass the other person?" "Will people tease me?" "Is this private or public?"

Regulate the Excitement: Take a deep breath and count to 10. Keep it to yourself. Tell an adult when you get home. Write it in a journal/diary.

400

“Shut up! You’re so annoying!”

“I feel distracted when it’s loud because I’m trying to focus. Can we keep our voices down?”

How can you avoid this conflict?

Do what the teacher said the first time.

400

What would you do if you had a snack from home, but saw the teacher give another student a snack as they did not have one, and you liked that snack better and wanted it?

Eat your snack.

Keep your thoughts respectful.
Remember the difference between fair and equal.

400

When a student is listening to instruction, should you go behind the student to "lurk" and talk to them?

Why or why not?

  • It distracts the student from learning.

  • It shows disrespect to the teacher.

  • It can make the student uncomfortable.

Is a Reporter different than a Snitch?

Why or why not?
