(1) Conjunctivitis, also called "pinkeye" is an infection of the eye. It is caused by viruses or bacteria.

(2) You can treat it by warm compresses on the closed eye/eyes for 5 to 10 minutes, at least four times a day. This should be followed by antibiotic eyedrops.

(3) Conjunctivitis is contagious! It is usually spread by touching the infected eye/eyes, and then touching other surfaces such as a telephone, doorknobs, etc. You can prevent spreading by not sharing wash cloths, towels, pillows, or eye makeup. You should also avoid touching your eyes and should your hands frequently.
