In “Let Us Be the Healing of the Wound,” what does Gloria Anzaldua mean by conocimiento, or understanding?

After a period of “desconocimiento,” in which an individual, group, or nation is stuck in a sort of vortex of darkness and disconnection, “conocimiento,” or understanding, is a sort of reconciliation with, and awareness of, a facing of the trauma, which names it and brings it out into the light. This is the where the healing process begins through what she calls “spiritual activism.”

In her words, conocimiento is “the potential of knowing within, an awareness and intelligence not grasped by logical thought.”
