ABA
What is Applied Behavior Analysis
A learning process that occurs when two stimuli are repeatedly paired: a response which is at first elicited by the second stimulus is eventually elicited by the first stimulus alone
What is classical conditioning
The process of rewarding or reinforcing a desirable behavior in order to increase the likelihood that the behavior will be repeated in the future
What is positive reinforcement
Type of evidence based therapy that targets depression and anxiety. Hint: connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors
What is CBT
A client is presenting with low motivation, is falling asleep in class, and is experiencing SI. What type of therapy or intervention would you recommend?
CBT, behavioral activation activities
CBT
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
A method of learning that uses rewards and punishment to modify behavior
What is operant conditioning
This occurs right before the target behavior. It can be verbal, such as a command or request
What is antecedent
The goal of this type of intervention is to increase behaviors that are helpful and to decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning.
What is ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis)
A school aged client has a social skill deficit and has not been maintaining enough person space or eye contact when interacting with his peers. What intervention would you recommend?
What is social skills training and ABA (positive reinforcement for exhibiting the target behavior to increase the likelihood that the student engages in the behavior in the future).
REBT
What is Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy
This occurs when something unpleasant or uncomfortable is removed or taken away in order to increase the likelihood of the desired behavior.
What is negative reinforcement
This comes directly after the behavior. It can include positive reinforcement of the desired behavior, or no reaction for incorrect/inappropriate responses
What is consequence
This is often assigned for CBT clients to complete in between therapy sessions
What are behavioral homework assignments
A school aged client comes out to you in session. Do you tell the parent?
No, confidentiality. Unless the student is in danger, expresses that they want to harm themselves/others, or reports neglect/abuse, do not tell the parent.
BIP
What is Behavior Intervention Plan
The father of cognitive behavioral therapy
Who is Aaron Beck
Collecting this is important for assessing the impact of the intervention and monitoring gains made in therapy
What is behavioral data
This is often assigned to clients who experience physiological anxiety symptoms or difficulties with falling asleep at night
What is mindfulness activities, deep breathing and mindfulness techniques
Your client is here for their first therapy session. What is discussed during the first CBT session, in additional to collecting a throughout background?
Confidentiality and therapy goals
ABC
What is Antecedent, Behavior and Consequence
When applied to data collection, this is a clear, concise detailed definition of a measure or behavior
What is an operational definition
The criteria for determining which behavior to target first
What is the behavior that is most intrusive, disruptive or functionally impairing
Type of therapy that helps challenge and replace irrational beliefs
What is REBT
Your client agreed to participate in 12 weeks of CBT therapy. During week 8 they say "I feel fine" and want to stop attending therapy. Do you terminate with the client?
No, at least one final session is needed for closure and to review coping skills. Best practice is to complete the treatment plan (full 12 weeks).
