No, that was not God's plan and it brought trouble to the family.

A smoking fire pot and a flaming torch appeared and passed between the animal pieces. The pot and torch represented the Lord's presence.

God promised to give Abram's descendants the land of Canaan.
What should Abram and Sarai have done?
They should have waited for God to send them their own son and not take matters into their own hands to make God's promise come true.
What happened to Lot's wife and why did it happen?
After escaping the city she turned around and looked it and turned into a pillar of salt. It happened because she disobeyed and turned around to look at the city when she was told not to.
