Look at the transcript to determine which credits a student is missing, strategically choose a BYU class taking into account that it is worth 0.5 HS credits, prioritize HS requirements
What is the goal of degree planning at NSHS?
To ensure students can advocate for themselves at the college level and be armed with the tools to advise themselves and be responsible college consumers, to highlight how impactful dual credit is when it is done with proper advising, to emphasize that students can kill up to three birds with one stone
What is the difference between an Advanced Diploma and a CCR Diploma?
CCR Diploma has the same requirements as the Advanced Diploma with the addition of either a college-ready endorsement, career-ready endorsement, or both
In general, how should you navigate a situation in which a student or parent is upset about an NSHS policy?
Reinforce the policy, use the 3 decision making rules, escalate privately if choosing to escalate, do not assign blame to leadership for the outcome
How do you determine which 200-level English class a student should take?
AA requires ENG 231 or above, AS requires ENG 231 or 232, consider the student’s interests if the degree doesn’t specify
Which situations would warrant a student taking a BYU class?
To meet class count if they are limited in college class count, to fulfill external credits, credit recovery, to meet class count if a student drops or is dropped from a college class mid-semester and cannot get into another college class, repeating a class from their previous school to improve their GPA
What differences exist between the requirements for the Associate of Arts and the Associate of Science at CSN?
AS has a more rigorous math component, HHP 124 counts as a lab for AS but not AA, AS requires more science/math classes, no Literature or Analytical Reasoning requirement for AS, AA has more course options for Humanities requirement, AA requires more Social Science credits, AA has more course options for Social Science requirement, AA requires 17 Elective credits while AS requires 10 Elective credits
What are the requirements for the Millennium Scholarship?
Graduate with an overall GPA of 3.25 (weighted or unweighted) OR earn a qualifying test score on the SAT (1070 or higher) or ACT (21 or higher). Complete the following high school requirements: 4 credits of English 4 credits of math (including Algebra II or higher) 3 credits of science 3 credits of history. Be a resident of Nevada for at least two years.
What are the requirements to be eligible for a Study Skills Exemption?
No Fs and minimum 2.0 GPA for the previous semester, out of remedial math, green/yellow scorecard
What are the advising consideration questions that you should be asking each time you advise a student?
What is the highest math they have completed? What sciences did they do best in? Are they identified as an English Learner (EL) or is English their second language? Are they missing any external credits? Are they interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in science? What is their desired bachelor’s degree major? How many times have they repeated this college course? What learning modality are they struggling with? Is something in their personal life impeding their academic success?
