What is magma called when it comes out of the Earth?
Lava
100
What are all object made up of?
All objects are made up of atoms.
100
What are the 3 types of matter?
Solid, liquid, and gas
100
How does light travel?
It travels in straight lines.

Who is the native American woman who brought the cultures of her tribes people and the British people closer together.
Pocahontas
200
How many layers does the Earth have and what are they?
4 (crust, mantle, outer core, inner core)
200
What are the 3 particles found in atoms and what are there charges?
protons (positive) electrons (negative) neutrons (neutral)
200
Describe how the atoms are arranged in a solid.
The atoms are close together and in rows.
200
What are the 3 types of materials that have different properties when light hits?
opaque (no light passes through) translucent (some light passes through) transparent ( all light passes through)
200
What remarkable person said, "I move like a butterfly and sting like a bee?
Mohammad Ali
300
Name at least 3 materials that come out of volcanoes?
lava, ash, gas, and steam
300
What do two objects with the same charge do?
Objects with the same charge will repel. (move away from each other)
300
What are the 3 properties of matter?
The properties of matter are mass, shape, and volume.
300
What is reflection of light?
When light hits an object, all or some the light bounces back off of the object. This is reflection.
300
What is the racially unequal system that Nelson Mandela fought against and under which he went to jail?
The Apartheid system

Depending on the level of volcanic activity, what are the 3 kinds of volcanoes.
Active, dormant, and extinct.
400
Explain what happens to a balloon when you rub it on your hair.
The electrons from your hair rub off onto the balloon and the balloon builds up a negative charge.
400
Describe the different properties of a solid and a liquid.
A solid has mass, shape, and volume and a liquid has only mass and volume. The atoms in a solid are close together and are in rows and in a liquid, the atoms are moving around more and are further apart.
400
Why do some objects create a shadow?
Opaque objects create shadows. When light hits them, all of the light is blocked but light can go past the object to the sides. This causes a dark space in the shape of the object to appear. This is a shadow.

Who is Nick Vujicic and what does he do now?
He is an Australian man born with no arms or legs and who now gives talks to young people about never giving up and how to be positive in life.
500
What do volcanologists do?
Volcanologists are scientists who observe volcanic activity and try to predict when a volcano might erupt.
500
Why do small bits of paper (confetti) jump to a balloon with a negative charge?
The protons in the paper are attracted to the negatively charged balloon and the electrons in the paper move away from the electrons in the balloon. A positive charge builds up on one side of the paper and that's why the paper jumps to the balloon.
500
What is needed to go from one phase of matter to another?
A temperature change is needed. Heat or cold.
500
Why does a pencil look bent when it is in a glass of water?
Light travels through air and water at different speeds. As the beam of light enters the water, it slows down and bends. As it re-enters the air the light beam speeds up and bends back again. This is called refraction and it looks like the pencil is bent.
500
What common goal did Mohammad Ali and Nelson Mandela both fight for?
Racial equality and equal rights for all people
