Ema does come back, and makes numerous cameos, she appears in four other games after her first appearance!

Powers. Many main characters have powers, and each do different things with them. Miles is able to engage in a battle of wits with logic(mind) chess, and Athena has her hearing, but both Apollo and Phoenix use a tool to give them powers, Phoenix the Magatama, and Apollo the bracelet
Apollo does not get his powers from the bracelet, he gets it from genetics. The bracelet is used to help hone his powers, Trucy (and presumably apollo) can see things others can’t with their eyes.

Both of these cases had a kidnapped teenager who were used to bribe someone for a certain verdict in court. Additonally, a small noise specific to a certain location caused a breakthrough in finding the teen!
