The main conflict is the fear of witchcraft. This conflict is mostly external, it’s between characters (Abigail vs. the other girls, Parris vs. his congregation, the Putnams vs. their neighbors) and between the community and the fear of witchcraft. However, there are also hints of internal conflict, like Abigail’s fear of being exposed and Proctor’s struggle with his guilt over the affair. All in all, External conflict.
