AED prompts
AED trouble shooting
CPR
considerations
100
the electrode pad should be placed on the center of the chest and between the shoulder blades.
What is child/ infant pad positioning.
100
direct all bystanders to "stand clear"
What is do not touch the patient during analyse phase.
100
ensure electrode cord is still plugged into the AED ensure the electrode cord is not kinked or cut ensure that both electrode pads are adhering to the chest of the patient check expiry date on the electrode pouch
What is check electrode prompt
100
30:2
What is the rate of compression's to breaths
100
remember water conducts electricity. excessive moisture on the skin can decrease the effectiveness of the shock. be sure to: remove victim from water and move to a dry area ensure the victims chest is dry, and that you are dry
What is water, in pools or if victim is wet
200
AED must be located at patients side. and on the side of the operator. when the AED arrives, turn it on and follow the prompts. do not touch the patient during analyse or shock phase. direct bystanders to stand clear. unless the victim shows signs of life continue CPR for 2 minutes after shock or no shock prompt.
What is general use of an AED
200
deliver 2 minutes of CPR
What is after the prompt of a shock/no shock.
200
ensure that you, your partner, or a bystander is not touching the patient. check to see if the patient is breathing ensure that there are no cell phones of hand held radios in the immediate area stop a moving vehicle
What is motion detected prompt
200
vomit with pinking up flickering of the eyes movement coughing breathing
What is sign of life
200
when assisting children, focus on supporting airway and breathing since most causes of arrest in children are related to trauma or breathing problems versus sudden cardiac arrest. if you do not have child pads use the adult pads; center of the chest center of the shoulder blades
What is victim is under 8 years if age or under
300
patient must be unresponsive and not breathing effectively before application of the AED. the AED is then used to stun the heart allowing it to return to normal sinus rhythm.
What is the purpose of an AED and when is it used.
300
electrical activity of the heart muscle is coordinated, resulting in normal muscle contractions that produce a pulse.
What is normal sinus rhythm
300
ensure that daily weekly and monthly checks are being made on the AED unit to ensure the AED is ready to use in an emergency situation. a battery with a low battery signal will hold enough charge for 3 shocks.
What is battery symbol, service symbol.
300
2-2.5'' or 5-cm anything over 6 cm can cause damage
What is compression depth for an adult.
300
chest medical patches such as nitroglycerin patches for angina patients, should be removed and the area wipes clean. if the patch is not removed, it may block the energy delivered through the pads and cause burning. wear gloves and handle the patch carefully to avoid contact with the medication.
What is medicine patches on the chest
400
a victim who required defibrillation benefits from a combination of shocks and chest compression's. when the AED administers a shock the heart is momentarily stunned and may take several minutes to beat effectively enough to circulate blood on its own.
What is AED protocol
400
electrical activity of the heart is uncoordinated, resulting in uncoordinated quivering muscle contractions with no detectable pulse. the AED will indicate a shock advised prompt.
What is ventricular fibrillation.
400
the aed is reading the electrical activity to determine if a shock is needed
What is analyse phase
400
mouth to stoma
What is an adaptation for rescue breaths.
400
place the electrode pad at least 1" away. some people have a small device implanted in their torso that delivers automatic shocks to the heart. attach the AED pads in the same manner as for pacemakers, making sure they are 1" away. if you see minor contractions in the area while you are reading the AED, wait 20-30 seconds until the automated internal cardiac defibrillator is finished. you can touch the victim when the AICD is shocking
What is implanted pacemakers
500
the survival of a victim of circulatory disease depends upon a series of interventions in the Canadian chain of survival. when a first-aider first recognizes cardiac arrest and preforms CPR the first link of the chain is activated. access to early defibrillation is the next link. the sooner defibrillation occurs the better a victims chance of survival.
What is the importance of early defibrillation and AED related to the Chair on Survival and the "10 minute window"
500
electrical activity of the heart is uncoordinated and rapid. atrium's and ventricles of the heart do not completely fill with blood, resulting in no detectable pulse. the AED unit will indicate a shock advised prompt.
What is pulse-less ventricular tachycardia.
500
the AEd cannot detect a shock-able rhythm and CPR is required to circulate oxygen
What is no shock advised.
500
CPR should be stopped and the AED is placed on the victim with maximum of 10 seconds disruption.
What is AED protocol.
500
if the victim vomits at the same time as the AED indicated shock, continue with the AED protocol, administering a shock followed by clearing the airway of vomit of fluids.
What is vomit
