Describe the difference between a mission system and the encomienda system.

Mission system- religious communities where Native Americans lived and worked. The purpose was to convert them to Christianity and teach them Spanish culture, however it was strict and limited indigenous peoples’ freedom.

Encomienda system- harsh forced labor system created by Spain for the Native Americans
