Muckrakers were journalist and writers that wrote about the things that were wrong with America in the 1800’s. One prominent was Lincoln Steffens he was the editor at McClure’s which was a magazine known for uncovering social problems. Another one was Jacob Riis who was a photographer for the New York Evening Sun. He took pictures of crowded, unsafe, rat infested tenement building where the urban poor lived.
