  5. Remind yourself that things like intelligence, physical strength, good grades, popularity, a big group of friends, a good sense of humor, beauty, and most importantly, being a good Muslim, are all gifts from Allah. Just as easily as He gives these gifts, He can take them away. 

  6. Always thank Allah sincerely whenever you receive a good grade, a compliment, or feel that you have done something well.

  2. Assuming that having a blessing that others don’t have makes you better than them. 

  3. Looking down on others because you think they are worse Muslims than you are.

  5. Being overly impressed with yourself and admiring your talents, appearance, or status.

  3. Say: أَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيم (I seek refuge in Allah from Shayṭān, the accursed.)

  4. Take 1 minute of silence, no speaking, no actions. Think carefully.

  5. During this minute: 

  • name your feeling in your head: “I feel _____  because _____.”

  • Decide your response: “I will express my feelings calmly and respectfully.” 

  • Think of the best words to use. Take responsibility for how you feel; don’t blame others for how you feel.

Which Qur’an verse warns about arrogance, and what does it teach us?

  • “I will turn away from My signs those who are arrogant on earth without right.” (Surah Al-A‘rāf 7:146).
