Where do you shelter in place?
Shelter in Place occurs when there is an external emergency, often weather-related, and the safest course is to remain protected and inside.
The Emergency action plan identifies the safest area to shelter in place, such as lower floors, interior rooms without doors or windows, areas free from items that might fall, or areas least likely to suffer damage. These areas are noted on classroom and center floor plans.

• Outerwear or other clothing with neck strings.
• Mittens or gloves threaded on a string inside a child’s jacket.
• Pants with drawstrings on the waist or bottom which extend more than 3” when tied.
• For all children under three, straps, strings, ties, necklaces, boas, scarves, or purses/bags (with straps) that are longer than 12”.
• Bibs with ties or strings of any kind. A child wearing any type of bib should not be placed in a crib.
• Pacifiers on a clip or string. Pacifiers may be labeled with a non-toxic marker only. Other labels (e.g., tape) are prohibited.
• Amber Beads or other beads used for teething.
• Blankets and other bedding in infant cribs. In older classrooms where blankets are permitted, a child’s head and face should not be covered.
• Bike helmets can be a strangulation hazard and should ONLY be worn while bike riding.

Why would you evacuate?
How would you evacuate?
All center staff, administrators, and children in the building are required to evacuate when the alarm sounds (or notice is given) by moving quickly toward the exits without stopping for coats, shoes, or other personal belongings.
A designated staff member in each room takes the classroom iPad (or transition tracking sheet if relevant) and classroom backpack or bag. The classroom backpack/bag includes printed stat sheets from BrightStar, with emergency contact information, for each child. Staff must ensure that all children are accounted for and escorted safely outside.
Proper hand washing
Children and staff should wash hands as follows using warm water between 60 and 120 degrees F:
Moisten hands with water and apply liquid soap to hands.
Rub hands together vigorously until a soapy lather appears; with hands out of water continue for at least 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday twice). Rub areas between fingers, around nailbeds, under fingernails, jewelry, and back of hands.
Rinse hands under running water, until they are free of soap and dirt.
Dry Hands: Leave the water running while drying hands. Dry hands with a clean, disposable paper or single-use cloth towel.
Shut off faucets: If faucets do not shut off automatically, turn them off with a disposable paper or single-use cloth towel. Dispose of the paper towel into a hands-free trash container; place single-use cloth towels in a laundry hamper; or hang individually labeled cloth towels to dry.

-If no allergy inform leadership of the rash and receive additional guidance
Prohibited items relates to small objects and toy pieces
• Items that fit in the choke tube.
• Small, ingestible art supplies (e.g., glitter, small cotton balls, feathers & pom poms).
• Styrofoam products or pieces (e.g., packing peanuts).
• Artwork displays using staples, thumbtacks, push pins, small magnets, or glass frames. Instead, tape, magnetic tape, Velcro, sticky tack, plastic box frames, and DocU Pockets (available on BrightBuy) should be used in these classrooms and common area displays.
• Items which are prohibited for this age group, per product directions or guidelines.

Why do we Lockdown?
Where do we lockdown?
A lockdown occurs in response to a human threat of violence or a dangerous situation (such as an active shooter), whether inside the location or in the general vicinity. There is usually little to no warning when a lockdown is needed, so quick action is required.
Lockdowns may begin with notice from law enforcement, emergency personnel, or campus security of a known danger, or an alert by management.
During a lockdown, staff must be empowered to make quick decisions, often including whether to lock down in a safe area or evacuate to a secondary or a safe location. The building is secured during a lockdown, and no one (except emergency personnel) is allowed in or out of the building.
A parent wants to know if you think their child is ready to toilet learn, what do you say?
-Share what you have observe with their child (times child remains dry, informs you they are wet or bm)
-Encourage them to continue to work on self help skills (pulling clothing on and off)
