You knock on a door for noise and get no response, even after announcing yourself and knocking three times. What do you do?

Call UNHPD, knock again and tell the students you're calling PD, and wait for them to arrive! Write it up as noise, but note the student's refusal to listen to Hall Staff.

A student knocks on your door crying and begins having what looks like an anxiety attack as they try to explain to you what's wrong. What do you do?

Stay with the student and attempt to help them calm down. If they are having trouble breathing for a prolonged period of time, or they seem at risk for a health emergency, call EMS.

If they aren't, consider calling the PACS crisis line to help you address the situation and get the student connected with resources immediately.

On rounds, you encounter a student passed out on the floor in the hallway, with their roommate next to them. What do you do?

A resident discloses that they're having trouble with motivation and getting out of bed every morning to you while you're sitting in the lounge doing homework at 9 PM on a night you aren't on duty. What can you do from here?

You can talk to the resident, direct them to PACS after hours or during hours services, refer them to the RA on duty. Gently setting boundaries with residents on when you are and aren't able to help with everything is allowed and encouraged. In this situation, ask follow up questions to ensure it isn't an emergency, and then pass them to the appropriate resource depending. If the situation becomes an emergency, DO NOT leave the resident until they are with another staff member who will handle the situation.
