2. "La Dolce Vita" is an Italian phrase that means "The Sweet Life". It represents a lifestyle full of pleasure, luxury, indulgence, and carefree relaxation.

According to popular tradition, the story takes place in June 1889. King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Savoy were visiting the royal palace in Naples. The Queen grew tired of the elaborate French cuisine typically served to European royalty and expressed a desire to try the local food of the common people: pizza, which at the time was considered a cheap street food for the poor. A famous Neapolitan pizzaiolo (pizza maker) named Raffaele Esposito (of Pizzeria Brandi) was summoned to bake for her. He prepared three different options: A traditional pizza with lard, pecorino cheese, and basil. A pizza with garlic, oil, and tomatoes. A new creation featuring red tomatoes, white mozzarella, and green basil. The Queen absolutely loved the third pizza. Esposito’s wife noticed that the ingredients perfectly mirrored the colors of the newly unified Italian flag (red, white, and green). In honor of the royal guest, the chef named the pizza "Margherita."
