Orientation
The main purpose of the Orientation Dimension is to introduce the ALM's key concepts to these people, and to introduce these people to each other.
Who are students, parents, and community members?
The area of individual development emphasizes preparation for the future and directs the learners to pursue possible avenues and selection in these fields.
What is College and career involvement
This area of Enrichment allows learners the chance to talk to people behind the scenes of ongoing activities and one-time events, such as museums or theatrical plays.
What are cultural activities?
This seminar deals with topics that can cause disagreements between people due to strong, opposing opinions.
What is Contoversial?
For this, learners find an expert or other supportive adult to work with them and help them achieve their In-Depth Study goals.
What is mentorship.
This area of Orientation explains what the ALM is and what it has to offer, plus explores opportunities for learning in and out of the school setting.
What are Program and School Opportunities and Responsibilities?
In this area of Individual Devlopment, students continue to develop a deeper understanding of self while also developing appropriate social skills.
What is Inter/Intra Personal?
This first level of learning helps learners discover topics of interest by giving them a quick look at what information is available.
What is Exploration?
This Seminar type deals with topics in the future and techniques necessary to “future learning”.
What is Futuristic?
In an In-Depth Study, the learner usually chooses to work alone but may work in a group of this size.
What is two to three people.
These provide opportunities for students and teachers to begin developing the openness, trust, communication, and acceptance necessary for successful positive interactions throughout the ALM.
What are group-building activities?
Short- and long-term goal setting, time management, and life management.
What are Organizational Skills?
These are planned by interested learners, parents, and facilitators and include activities to de-brief after going on them.
What is adventure trips
This seminar type allows learners to present a topic of their liking that isn't futuristic, problematic, or controversial.
What is General interest?
Learners should study a topic for an In-Depth Study as thoroughly as possible for up to this amount of time.
What is 2 months to 2 years.
By understanding these key concepts, learners begin to create and then understand their own abilities in relationship to self and society.
What are Giftedness, Talent, Intelligence, and Creativity?
These include creative thinking, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, futures thinking, and study skills.
What are Learning Skills?
This second level of learning involves a longer-term commitment to a topic, with learners often sharing their findings with an audience.
What are investigations?
This Seminar type includes problems learners face within their own communities.
What is Problematic?
For an In-Depth Study, this is who determines what will be learned, how it will be learned, how it will be presented, what facilitation will be necessary, what the final product will be, and how the entire learning process will be assessed.
Who is the Learner?
By inspecting areas of strength and attitudes toward themselves and others, and by investigating their own interests and abilities, learners begin this.
What is Self/Personal Development?
Learning with computers, cameras, robots, etc.
What is Technology?
This area of Enrichment provides experiences that will help learners understand the concept of humanitarianism, such as working with the elderly, raising food and money for shut-ins, etc.
What is service?
This Seminar type allows a group of learners to present a topic which is very complicated and not understood by most people.
What is Advanced Knowledge?
In this aspect of an In-Depth Study, learners determine the criteria and design an instrument that will be used to evaluate them and their work.
What is Assessment
