Kansas Ridge School 1906

This town was known as FORSTER in the early days. Mr. Forster was killed in a rail construction accident in 1910.  The town was named in his honor but became confused with Forster, Saskatchewan. Local homesteaders were playing cards.  Joe Louis, a Métis gentleman who loved to play poker and got involved in a serious card game with early settlers Frank Allan, Alec Salmon and Art Robinson.

When Louis ran out of money, he put up his land for security and on the next hand lost his homestead to Allan, who in turn sold the quarter section for $500 to a Mr. Eugene "++++++".

The Panthermobile was built from Oldsmobile 7 liter V8 Toronado chassis with open cockpit design. It was 23 feet or 7m long and 6 feet or 1.8 m wide. It cost $100,00 in 1976 or  $535,000 to build with today’s values. The vehicle was very difficult to drive due to the long shape. Black & white television monitor instead of rearview mirrors. Could not safely be driven at high speed.
