Public Perceptions and Media Representation
Racial and Ethnic Disparities in the American Dream:

What role do government programs and social services (e.g., healthcare, housing assistance, and unemployment benefits) play in shaping immigrants' pursuit of the American Dream?

Asian Immigrants don't get the healthcare they need. Studies have shown that racial/ethnic minorities, and immigrants are at a disadvantage with health care utilization. The government doesn’t seem to care about the immigrants getting the healthcare they need.

“studies have shown that racial/ethnic minorities, and immigrants in particular, are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to health care utilization”().

How do immigrants’ mental health and emotional well-being affect their pursuit of the American Dream, especially regarding stress related to acculturation, language barriers, and discrimination?

Since they were judged by ethnicity, gender, and looks, it caused them self-doubt, which could lead them to not believe in the American dream because they felt less than others.

100

How does the experience of the American Dream differ for skilled immigrants (engineers, doctors) versus low-skilled immigrants (farm workers, service workers)?

The difference may ultimately be their amount of wealth from their occupations. An immigrant who is a doctor or an engineer will obviously have more income than a Farmer, or a Service worker.

100

How do media portrayals of immigrants and the American Dream influence the self-perception of immigrant groups?

Media portrayals of Asian immigrants and the American Dream shape their self-perception by influencing their sense of identity, belonging, and aspirations, either empowering them through success stories of hard work and achievement or alienating them through stereotypes like the "model minority" myth or perpetual foreigner narrative.

Are African, Latinx, Asian, or Middle Eastern immigrants more likely to face systemic barriers in comparison to European or Anglo-Saxon immigrants?

Many studies show results and data of Asian Americans face systematic barriers that european descendents because they come from a different place and they dont look the same as them. They have different beliefs and practices that might seem strange or weird to europeans. this shows how the American dream isn't as truthful as it seems to be.

How do undocumented immigrants perceive and experience the American Dream compared to documented immigrants or refugees?

Undocumented immigrants face uncertainty and very limited opportunities because of their lack of legal status, while documented immigrants and refugees have more stability and access to opportunities, though still facing some challenges.

200

How do feelings of isolation or belonging affect the American Dream experience for immigrants, particularly in comparison to native-born citizens?

The American dream is when you seem to have the perfect life, but since they faced the isolation, they feel like they would never be able to achieve it compared to native born citizens because of the ways they were treated and the opportunities they never got offered.

What is the role of language proficiency, educational background, and professional experience in shaping the experiences of the American Dream across different immigrant groups?

The role of language proficiency is weather an immigrant can have an English conversation and is able to comprehend it. If an immigrant were to have a high English speaking proficiency, then they can achieve an educational background, and/or/a professional experience(s)

How do different immigrant populations view the portrayal of the American Dream in U.S. media and popular culture, and how does this affect their own aspirations?

The portrayal of the American Dream in U.S. media and popular culture shapes immigrant aspirations in complex ways, inspiring hope and motivation through success stories that emphasize hard work and opportunity, yet sometimes fostering unrealistic expectations by downplaying systemic challenges, while also influencing cultural identity as some groups embrace narratives that celebrate multicultural contributions, others feel excluded by depictions that overlook racial or economic barriers, and second-generation immigrants may develop aspirations that reflect broader American ideals rather than solely pursuing the stability their parents once prioritized.

How do race and ethnicity influence access to the American Dream in terms of job opportunities, education, and social mobility?

Due to the race and ethnicity of different people that live in America they don't get as much chances and opportunities to jobs as white Aemrcians do again because of their differences and because their is a thought of superiority to other races that aren't white Americans.

Why is Access to Social Services and Welfare relevant?

I would use this to be able to show that Asian immigrants or just immigrants in general that come to the U.S. won’t be able to just have the American dream. They won't be treated the same or given the same opportunity's.

300

Why is their psychological impact and well-being relevant?

I could use this to show that based on how people made the Asian immigrants feel, they would not be able to pursue the american dream. Since they were judged by ethnicity, gender, and looks, it caused them self-doubt, which could lead them to not believe in the American dream. The American dream is when you seem to have the perfect life. Still, since they faced the isolation, they feel like they would never be able to achieve it compared to native born citizens because of the ways they were treated and the opportunities they never got offered.

300

Why is the difference between immigrant Groups relevant?

I would use this to show that Asian Americans do not have to change their backgrounds, traditions, ways, etc. in order to achieve the “American Dream.” If every immigrant changed their background then there wouldn't be anything special, like how Asians will have their own decor in their houses, with their traditions. That's what makes every immigrant different.

300

Why is Public Perceptions and Media Representation relevant?

Public perceptions and media representation are relevant because they shape societal attitudes, influence cultural norms, and impact individual identities by reinforcing stereotypes or challenging them, ultimately affecting how groups are treated, how policies are formed, and how people see themselves and their potential within society.

300

Why is Racial and Ethnic Disparities relevant?

Race and ethnicity play a big role in access to the American Dream, especially in jobs, education, and moving up in society. Minorities often face discrimination when looking for jobs and are more likely to work in low-paying jobs. They also have less access to good schools and higher education. Past policies like redlining have created wealth gaps, making it harder for these groups to improve their situation. These problems make it
