Orienting RNs use a confidence scale to identify where they need extra support during their training. The nursing education team will connect with new hire and preceptor and make changes to orientation as needed.

During yearly eval time, numerous direct reports are asked to give anonymous feedback into the performance of their leader. That feedback is then incorporated into the performance eval.

PC has developed a peer-to-peer program at the inpatient hospital. In this program there are designated peers that are trained to support their co-workers in the event of a challenging or emotional situation, difficult restraint, etc.

During recent periods of planned change with the Newport acquisition and subsequent IT migration, nurse managers came to work during their off hours to be available to staff, answer questions, problem solve and trouble shoot challenges that arose with the migration.

We review long term staffing plan with RNs annually- last reviewed in Q3 of 2022- implemented hiring ATN, second charge on PM shift, and opened par for hospital float

How is the organization providing nurses opportunities to create work scheduled that support nurse well-being?


PC leadership removed the mandate requirement Summer, 2022 to prevent IP nurses and psych techs from working beyond their scheduled shifts. Management replaced the mandates with incentives such as days off, bonuses, and extra treats to incentivize staff to work extra shifts to meet patient needs.

PrairieCare offers many flexible schedules, from Monday – Friday schedules, Baylor shift schedules, and a variety of FTE’s from PRN to 1.0 to accommodate personal needs. Flexibility is afforded when requested to accommodate appointments and other personal needs on a day-to-day basis as well.
