How did communities in ancient Egypt get more complex?

Once Egypt built canals and dams to irrigate their farms, they were able to grow more food. This surplus allowed more people to live in the community. The surplus also allowed people to do more kinds of work. This allowed the social, economic, and political  systems to become more complex.
