  • Farming: floodwaters gave them soil to grow wheat, barley, and flax.
  • Food: the Nile gave fish and birds to eat.
  • Papyrus: reeds growing along the banks were used to make paper and boats.

Pharaohs believed they needed to be well-prepared for the afterlife, so they did several things to make sure they would be comfortable:

  1. Mummification – Their bodies were carefully preserved so their souls could recognize and return to them.
  2. Tombs and Pyramids – They built elaborate tombs filled with treasures, furniture, and decorations for use in the afterlife.
  3. Grave Goods – They included items like clothes, jewellery, food, and even boats or statues to help them live comfortably.
  4. Magical Spells and Texts – They placed scrolls like the Book of the Dead in their tombs to guide and protect them on their journey.
