The Feather of Truth was the final test that an Egyptian had to pass before they could transition into the afterlife. Osiris took the heart of the deceased and weighed it against the Feather of Truth. If it was as light or lighter than the feather, the soul could pass into the afterlife, because it meant that they led a good, pure life. If the heart was heavier than the Feather, then it meant that the soul did not lead a good, pure life, and their heart was thrown to the crocodiles of the Nile. Their souls would cease to exist.
