How was justice shown in Ancient Athens 

Fairness was that citizens were allowed to rule themselves through democracy. Majority rule is fair. This means that if more than half the people vote for something it is passed. Citizens who also committed acts would lose their citizenship.

What is direct democracy 

Direct democracy is when people vote directly to make decisions rather than having representatives. Every citizen, whether rich or poor was allowed to speak and vote.

A magistrate is a citizen in the court voted in by a lottery. A magistrate could fine someone or send them to trial.

The council of 500 was the full time government. It was known as the boule. They met at the agora and were voted in every year.

The citizens of Athens were divided into political parties (tribes) and 50 members from each tribe over the age of 30 served on Council.

The council made the agenda for the Assembly meetings and supervised the meetings. No laws or decisions (decrees) could be made without the councils approval of the majority

Any male citizen over 30 could be chosen for jury. The jury was chosen on the day of the trial by a lottery. Women could serve as a jury if a man was with her.
