_ is probably my favourite game of all time. Over 100 hours it tells a story about rebellion, corruption, suicide and a talking cat magically turning into a bus. It truly is a one of a kind experience. And that’s the entire problem with this anime. It truly has no purpose for existence. Besides people who are too lazy to spend 100 hours on a game.

Everyone has different tastes in anime and some anime that gel with others will not gel with you. _ is one of the last shows I have watched from last season as I have never watched a gourmet anime before as I know they will not be for me. However, dungeons, dark fantasy, blood, gore and seriousness is for me, so I thought I would give it a shot with the hopes it will turn into this later in the series.

TL;DR: 5/10, I don't recommend this for anyone that has standards and enjoys a fantasy world that tells you from the very beginning at least SOME of its rules, a good or at least somewhat decent power system, not made on the spot spells for whenever the author needs them, well-explored themes, complex characters or intriguing dialogue.
This anime can easily be described by saying that it is mediocre and generic and it has no reason to be as popular and praised as it is. The reason why I believe this is the case is because of the kind of interesting premise of the show which makes people think that this story and characters are actually mature, complex, or even philosophical (which it isn't, only at a surface level), the waifu bait mc, the episodic Slice of Life (SoL) elements and the presence of the well loved fantasy genre which is so popular these days in the anime community, giving huge generic isekai/fantasy anime vibes (especially the world and characters). While I have no problem with people that simply enjoy something for what it is, going from that to giving this anime only 9's and 10's and calling it anything close to "deep" or "philosophical" is an insult to any piece of writing that actually are this things.

I'm about to upset some folks, but this anime is low effort trash. From the opening scene, this anime felt like something written by an untalented self-published writer who watched too much SAO.
The dialogue is heavy-handed and clumsy, the central character is extremely overpowered and invincible, the overt haram theme is out of place, the characters are severely underdeveloped and one-dimensional, and every problem which arises is summarily dealt away with a heavy application of plot armor. The animation leaves a lot to be desired, with computer generated content jarringly out of place. I suppose I could see a preteen enjoying this anime, although the sexual themes and gore put it squarely out of the appropriate realm for that audience. I do not understand how this received more than a single season, but here we are.

My initial statement is because I can clearly see that the anime is well produced, has a well-written story and captivating characters, but I can't like it enough. To me, it seems like an anime for a female audience, with an intelligent female character in an important position and her romantic partner being the man from the place where she works (who is always a Hollywood hunk). Anyway, overall I didn't like it very much because it's not a genre that interests me. I don't plan on watching the second season and I only watched it because it was recommended.
