Name two bad things that entered the world for the first time after the fall.
Sin, death, disease, sorrow, natural disasters, crime, violence, thorns, pain in childbirth.
What is odd about a typical toy ark? Why doesn’t it represent the real ark described in the Bible?
The toy arks don’t look seaworthy and they don’t look big enough to contain all the animals, people, and supplies. They don’t match up with the ark’s description in the Bible.
What does everyone do to deserve God’s judgment and death?
We all sin against God.
How many ice ages have there been?
One
What lived and what died during the year-long flood?
Every animal that lived on the land and breathed air died unless it was aboard the ark.
Many of the animals in the sea died (but not all of them).
Of all the people, only the eight people aboard the ark lived.
Who did we get our sin nature from?
The first man, Adam.
How does the rainbow covenant remind us that the flood covered the entire globe?
If the flood was just a local event, God has broken his promise because we have local floods all the time.
How did God demonstrate judgment when he punished Cain for the sin of murder?
He banished Cain to go live in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
What happened to the people because of the confusion of the languages at Babel?
They scattered all over the earth.
How many animals were on the ark?
Two of each unclean kind.
Seven of each clean kind.
There are about 1,400 kinds of land dwelling, air breathing animals so there would have been about 7,000 animals on the ark.
Why did God bring the flood on the earth in the days of Noah?
The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. God must judge sin, and the punishment for sin is death.
Name two ways we can know the flood covered the entire globe.
The wording in the Bible is clear; it says the water covered the highest hills.
Also, Jesus and Peter spoke of the global nature
of the flood.
And the rainbow covenant reminds us that the flood was global.
Fossils, including those of sea creatures, are found all over the world—even on top of the tallest mountains.
2,000 years ago how did God show his mercy and grace to sinners?
He sent Jesus to take the punishment for sin, so anyone who believes has eternal life through faith in him.
Name one thing that would have caused the ice age after the flood.
Volcanic ash blocked out the sun and made the land cold.
Hot magma warmed the oceans which caused water to evaporate and lots of snow to fall over a long period of time.
The cold weather from the blocked sun caused glaciers and sheets of ice to form until about one-third of the planet was covered by ice.
Who was Cain’s wife?
The Bible gives us all we need to know to figure out that he married his sister or other close relative because that was not forbidden yet. It couldn’t have been a cousin since Adam and Eve had no brothers or sisters.
Is it a good idea to listen to our heart and follow its desires? Why or why not?
No. The Bible says "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked." We should follow God and do what he has commanded in his Word.
Name one way the work of Christ was foreshadowed in the events of the flood.
There was only one way to be saved from the flood—on the ark. There is only one way to be saved from the punishment of sin and death—through Jesus.
Noah was saved by God’s grace through faith in the promised Messiah. Salvation comes by God’s grace only to those who have faith in Jesus, the Messiah.
God was with Noah and his family throughout that frightening event, and he protected them and likely comforted them. When we receive Jesus as our Savior, God the Holy Spirit comforts and protects us.
After Noah entered the ark, God closed the door. Those people outside who chose not to enter the ark were left to face the destructive force of the flood. We have only this one life to enter Christ’s door of Salvation—the only name by which we may be saved. We never know how long we have before it will be too late.
How did God demonstrate mercy when he punished Cain for the sin of murder?
He showed mercy when he allowed him to live and have a family and gave him a mark to warn others not to kill him.
Why did God confuse the languages at Babel?
The people disobeyed God’s command to multiply and fill the earth. Instead they gathered together to build a city and a tower and to make a name for themselves. God was judging their sinful actions and forcing them to fill the earth as he had commanded.
What is one thing we see all over the world that confirms what the Bible says about the confusion of languages?
Accept one of these answers. Similar architecture/tower structures around the world or similar cultures and legends around the world that are similar to the event the Bible describes.
