What is diversity?
The idea that the human species is divided into distinct groups based on inherited physical and behavioral differences.
What is race?
Subtle acts of discrimination against a person or group of people.
What is microaggressions?
The unquestioned and unearned set of advantages, entitlements, benefits and choices bestowed upon people solely because they are white.
What is white privilege?
The creation of an experience where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and valued.
What is inclusion?
When social structures produce inequalities based on racial discrimination, so racialized people are discriminated against by individuals and institutions (health, education, penal system, etc.)
What is systemic racism?
Control and direct occupation by one nation over another nation’s land, resources, and culture through violence and oppression.
What is colonization?
When a white person acts from a position of superiority to rescue a BIPOC—Black, Indigenous, or person of color—community or person.
What is white saviourism?
A principle of fairness in treatment, access to opportunity, and advancement for all.
What is equity?
An ideology where white people are believed to be superior to nonwhite people. Used to justify slavery, imperialism, colonialism, and genocide at various times in throughout history.
What is white supremacy?
Extending power and dominion of one nation over other areas. This is done through acquiring land or gaining indirect political and economic control over other areas.
What is imperialism?
Discomfort and defensiveness on the part of a white person when confronted by information about racial inequality and injustice.
