It is always a good idea to check the label, so you know the alcohol content of a drink. In addition, a standard drink of wine is 5oz (12% alcohol) and a standard pour of liquor such as rum, vodka, and tequila is 1.5oz (40% alcohol).

Cannabis can have a calming effect, but it can also cause anxiety and paranoia. People who are already anxious are more likely to experience heightened anxiety while under the influence. Your liver can process one standard drink per hour. The more alcohol a person consumes, the more it accumulates in the blood, increasing intoxication.

Edibles are food products infused with cannabis. It can take up to 1.5 hours to feel the effects. THC, the psychoactive chemical, is absorbed through your liver. It’s important to take it slow and give your body time to process and feel the effects before consuming more.

How many days does it take to recover from drinking 5+ drinks in one night?

It can take up to 2 days to fully recover from one night of drinking 5+ drinks, which is considered high-risk drinking. Because the body needs time to recover, back-to-back nights of high-risk drinking can cause you to feel the effects of alcohol sooner because you still have alcohol in your system.

With edible cannabis, how long does the intoxicating effect/high last?

With edible cannabis, the intoxicating effects or "high" can last between 4-6 hours. However, some effects can last up to 12 hours after use and residual effects can last up to 24 hours, so you could be affected into the next day.

What is one way vaping can affect someone’s mental health?

There is a strong relationship between smoking and depression, anxiety, and stress. Current vape users 2x as likely to have a diagnosis of depression compared to those who have never vaped. There’s not enough research yet to say that vaping causes depression, but that we do see higher rates of depression in folks who vape compared to those who don’t.

Someone can avoid being pressured into using alcohol or other drugs by being around people they trust, setting a limit for themselves and letting others know that limit, making sure they are in a safe and comfortable environment, etc. Other options can include carrying around a drink but not drinking it, or removing yourself from the situation if your boundaries aren’t being respected.

Alcohol is a depressant, which has a big impact on several brain processes, by slowing them down. It changes our thinking, judgment, perception, temperature control, reaction time, motor/muscle control, vision, hearing, balance, movement, mood and emotions.

4x! The amount of THC (the main psychoactive chemical) in edibles and other concentrated products can be 4x stronger than the plant. When using consuming cannabis/THC products it’s important to know exactly how much THC is in them, as you may need much less to feel the effects.

What is one physical symptom that someone addicted to vaping may experience?

Nicotine addiction from vapes is the same as for smokers. This can mean feeling irritable or anxious, as well as craving the vape. You may also experience a lack of concentration when you can’t vape and you can have trouble sleeping. Additional long term symptoms include spiked heart rate and higher blood pressure, which can lead to higher risk of heart attack. If you or someone you know is trying to quit vaping or reduce their use, there are great resources out there!

Risks include nicotine addiction, mood disorders, and permanent lowering of impulse control. Nicotine also changes the way synapses are formed, which can harm the parts of the brain that control attention and learning. Young adults are uniquely at risk for long-term, long-lasting effects of exposing their developing brains to nicotine.
