The outer most layer of the skin

Anchors the skin to underlying muscles and organs.

Makes the epidermis tough and water resistant.
What are melanocytes ?
Basale produce melani.
What is a chemical burn?
Burn caused by contact with acids.
What is keratinocyte?
The most abundant cells in the epidermis and are responsible for producing keratin

The skin contains these structures that thick skin doesn’t
What is a second degree burn?
Damages both the epidermis and dermis and often cause blisters.
What is stratified squamous epithelium?
The epidermis is made of this type of epithelial tissue
What are sebaceous glands?
Absent in thick but present in thin skin
What is an electrical burn?
Caused by exposure to electricity and may damage internal tissue
What are blood vessels?
Unlike the dermis, the epidermis does NOT contain this.
