These confessions end with John Proctor. He confesses to lechery, and he is asked to also confess to working with the Devil in order to save his life.

(AP only) What is the hysteria that arises out of lack of evidence. People believed things simply that were said by word of mouth, if it was something that they are afraid of. They jumped on the bandwagon of fear. (English III) Without "The Crucible" we would not be nearly as aware of McCarthyism or the insanity that insued in the American government because of it. It helps us to see how ridiculous we acted in America in the 1950s.
