d. Quaker
The Religious Society of Friends, which on second reference can be called Quakers, originated in England in the 1640s when George Fox began teaching that people who follow the Inner Light do not need to follow the rituals, creed or authority of any church.
This brought him into conflict with the Church of England.
The Quaker William Penn founded Pennsylvania in 1682.
The Quakers in Pennsylvania were noted for their religious tolerance, nonviolence, good relations with Native Americans and, after 1758, opposition to slavery.
