The exam allowed people of all economic levels to work in the government. This is different to the previous system of rich people getting the job due to heredity. This caused the government to be more efficient because the officials were now educated. This lead to a more efficient and equal society.

One effect was the expansion of new markets and the development in religious conversions. The need for merchants to find new markets lead to the diffusion of products and ideas. The silk road allowed religions to travel chief among them Buddhism. This lead to the society of the time becoming more educated on different cultures and ideas.

Mercantilism is a state driven economy that focuses on gaining precisions metals through trade. An example of a mercantilist policy would be putting tariffs on foreign good to promote the domestic market. This strategy was used also to slight economic rivals of a country to hinder their trade. This allowed the country to gain more wealth through domestic trade.

What is the difference between skilled and unskilled labor? How would this influence someone's decision to support Capitalism vs. Communism?

An unskilled laborer is a job that requires little training and a skilled laborer is a worker with technical training such as a plumber or electrician. An unskilled laborer is more likely to support Communism and a skilled is more likely to support Capitalism. This is best shown how poorer less educated countries with a small middle class tend to become communist. Countries like Vietnam and China have shown this with a large unskilled laborer class causing them to become communist.
