Code Yellow
This is called when it is determined that a patient is missing and the search plan may be initiated.
What is Code Yellow?
The Duty Doctor, Charge Nurse and Security must consult, collaborate and co-ordinate their activities and designate this discipline as the search coordinator.

This policy is available in Section 3 of the Hospital Manual. This policy includes mental health act requirements for documentation of restraint , the types of restraint approved for use at HHC and the policy statement around their use.
What is Homewood's Restraint & Seclusion Policy 3-90?
In immediate area this checklist is used and the charge nurse arranges for staff to search the entire unit. This may include calling the patient's home, checking front sidewalks, patios, greenery, chapel, café, checking if patient brought a vehicle, etc.
What is the Search Plan Checklist
The decision to conduct a full ground search should include not only risks related to the patient involved but also the risks to the units. Security and one other staff may perform a limited search of easily accessed areas but the Search Coordinator may ask switchboard to page code yellow and ask all available staff report to this location.

This discipline initiates a Code Yellow.
The charge nurse. They phone '110' providing a detailed description of the patient and has switchboard page 'Code yellow and patient description'.
Police assistance may also be requested in urgent situations to search the grounds when the patient is on certificate. For an order for return this form is required to be completed.

Through immunizations, reporting early concerns, wearing PPE and making healthy lifestyles choices.
This staff member notifies the patient's family of the disappearance, if this has not been previously done, and requests that if the patient contacts then or arrives home, to contact the service/physician. Keep the family of the patient informed of events until the patient is found.

This option is available as a last resort if clinically indicated. Discuss with emergency administrator on call and if agreed to proceed contact the police to request assistance from who.
