What is......

Loose stools are bowel movements that appear softer than normal. They can be watery, mushy, or shapeless. In some cases, they may also have a strong or foul odor. 

While both "loose stools" and "diarrhea" refer to softer than normal bowel movements, diarrhea is specifically defined as having three or more loose or watery stools in a day, whereas loose stools can refer to a single episode or a few instances of softer than usual bowel movements
