Impressed his demographic of supporters but was seen as reckless by financial community.

Nullification Crisis: The Tariff of 1828 was enacted (after a series of other protective tariffs),and South Carolina/other southern states called it unconstitutional (felt it only helped the North while hurting the South). Brought up question of Gov, passing laws about slavery. Calhoun wrote letters about nullifying the tariff and Jackson saw it as a threat to the nation. Tariff 1832 caused SC to threaten to secede and refuse to follow the tariff, led to Force bill from Jackson. Henry Clay stepped in and created the Tariff of 1833 which all parties settled for.

Indian Removal: Jackson did not like natives and decided to remove them rather than integrate them into white society. 1830 Jackson got federal funds to relocate all southern tribes. Most agreed to move by the Cherokee National went to the Supreme court. Cherokee Nation vs Ga & Worcester vs Ga. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Cherokee's saying they a domestic dependent nation. Jackson ignored the ruling and in 1838 sent military troops to remove Cherokee's (Trail of Tears)
