What is an elliptical orbit and how does it happen?

When a projectile is released at a speed that is more than necessary to orbit (without falling to the ground), it may break away from what it is orbiting, not forming a perfect circle, it forms an ellipse, or an oval. However, the farther it gets, the slower it gets, and its potential energy builds, until it begins to return in order to re-build kinetic energy, and the cycle repeats.

Why is water denser as a liquid?

Water forms hydrogen bonds between different molecules, and as a liquid, when the molecules are moving all over the place, they stay close together so as to not break the hydrogen bonds. As ice, water is able to space out more without ruining the hydrogen bonds because the molecules aren't moving all over the place
