Where did the Articles of Faith come from?
In 1842, a Chicago newspaper man (John Wentworth) asked Joseph Smith for a summary of what the Church believed. Joseph responded with what became the Wentworth Letter. At the end of that letter, he included 13 short statements that outlined the core beliefs of the Church. Those statements are what we now call the Articles of Faith.
