Fingerspelling is the process of spelling out words by using the handshapes that correspond to the word’s letters. We use it for Proper Nouns (People’s names, places, titles, brand names, organizations) and for clarifying a specific concept, word or sign.

What is a sign name and how does a person get one?
A sign name is a unique sign that identifies a person in the Deaf community. Sign names can be based on personality traits or physical characteristics. Only a deaf individual can give a person their sign name.
