Unconditioned stimulus is pleasant
What is appetitive conditioning?
A man is given an Altoid every time he hears a computer ding. The computer dings a final time and he is not give an altoid, although he holds his hand out for one.
What is a conditioned response?
Co-ccurrence is anticipated on the basis of current associative strengths
What is actually unanticipated?
A woman hears a loud bang in her sleep and is startled awake.
A newly learned CS1-US association enhances learning that CS2 also predicts US
What is not blocking? (previously learned/prevents learning)
Reconditioning occurs more rapidly
What is a result of learner not forgetteing the CS-US association?
A rat is given an electric shock every time he hears a tone. The rat is taken to another cage and the tone is played over and over again with no electric shock and no longer shows fear. The rat is taken back to the original cage and played the tone, in which he shows fear again.
What is renewal?
Rescorla Wagner Model can account for every kind of learning
What is not true about R-W Model? (cannot account)
Difference between subject's expectation of US and whether it actually occurs
What is prediction error?
Julie has been afraid of rollercoasters her whole life since she rode the Iron Rattler at Six Flags. One day, she rides a rollercoaster, enjoys it, and is no longer afraid. Years later, she returns to the Iron Rattler and is afraid of rollercoasters once again.
What is spontaneous recovery?
CS is repeatedly presented with the US, reduces likelihood of CR
What is not extinction? (without the US)
Not simply count co-occurences between events, but rather evaluate in a broader context
What is associative mechanism's contribution to associative learning?
Tim experiences an extreme headache after drinking his Monday coffee. He drinks coffee four days in a row afterwards without any headaches. Tim drinks coffee on the fifth day, not knowing he has COVID, and gets another headache. He believes it is the coffee bringing him the headache and not some other cause.
What is reinstatement?
CS first occurs, then nothing occurs, then US occurs only once.
What is not delay conditioning? (US occurs in regular intervals)
