Bananas and strawberries are both in the fruit component. To be reimbursable, snacks must contain food from 2 different meal components.

You get called away from recording meals to deal with a situation. How do you ensure an accurate meal count and attendance is recorded?
Have a second staff member logged into Link2Feed and continue tracking attendance and meals.
If that is not possible, have the attendance and meal count recorded on paper. Send a copy of the paper records to the Culinary Programs Manager. Edit the meal service in Link2Feed as soon as possible. Make a note of the interruption.

If a child says they do not want something that is being served, do I have to give it to them?
If it is a part of the meal, yes, you have to give it to them. They have to be served the entire meal, as intended according to the menu; including the milk. The only exception is if the item is listed as optional on the menu, such as salad dressing or ketchup.

There are often leftover food items or things the kids don't want to eat at your site. Kids will sometimes as if they can trade or give food to someone else. What can you do to help prevent food waste?
Create a share table. This way food can be safely shared and help reduce waste.

You may serve an extra treat as a dessert after a meal, or it may be simply served at a separate time that is not when they are being served a supper or snack.
It may not replace any item on the menu.

Why is providing children nutritious meals important, what effect does hunger have on children?
Kids who are hungry struggle to concentrate and fall behind academically.
They have a poor attention span, memory or trouble concentrating. They are more likely to to miss school due to illness. They may hoard snacks or food. They bully others or behave badly. They are hyperactive or impulsive They show aggression or antisocial behavior.
