Fun facts
100

Define ozone.

Ozone is a form of oxygen that has three oxygen atoms in each molecules instead of the usual two.

100

What are clouds made out of?

Clouds are made out of tiny drops of water vapor. Water vapor collects in the air and eventually will get to heavy and fall back to Earth.

100

Most airplanes fly in this layer of the atmosphere.

Stratosphere. There are few things that happen here so it is very calm and there is less turbulence.

100

Air pressure is......

The result of the weight of a column of air pushing down on an area.

100

How many layers are ther in out atmosphere?

There are 4 layers. They are classified according to temperature

200

Define Altitude.

Altitude, or elevation, is the distance above sea level, the average level of the surface of the oceans. The higher you go the more altitude you have.

200

True or false

There is only one type of cloud.

False. There are many types of clouds and they are all different from each other.

200

This layer is in the middle. What is it called?

Mesosphere. Fun fact is that meteors burn up in this layer and keep us safe.

200

What are the most common barometer.

Mercury barometer and aneroid barometer

200

What does The Ozone layer do for all living things

It helps blocks UV rays from hitting earth

300

Define atmosphere.

Earth’s atmosphere is the envelope gases that surrounds the planet.

300

This cloud extends through all levels, thy also make rain and make a storm. What cloud is this?

This is a Nimbus cloud.

300

This is were Aurora borealis also known as northern lights appear

These happen in the thermosphere.

300

True or false

Air is more dense when you are closer to sea level

True

300

How much oxygen is in our atmosphere?

21% of our atmosphere has oxygen in it.

400

Define water vapor.

Water vapor is water in the form of gas. Water vapor is invisible and is made up of tiny droplets of water.

400

What part of the atmosphere are clouds in?

Troposphere. Most of weather happens here.

400

Were do satalites in the atmosphere?

In the exosphere. The exosphere is the top portion of the thermosphere

400

How does an mercury barometer work?

A mercury barometer consists of a glass tube open at  the bottom end and partially filled with mercury. The space above the mercury is almost a vacuum- it contains very little air. Greater air pressure forces the column of mercury higher.

400

True or false

There is neon in our atmosphere.

True. About 0.0018% of our atmosphere is neon

500

Define barometer.

A barometer is an instrument that is used to measure air pressure. The two most common barometers are the mercury barometer and the aneroid barometer

500

What level does a cirrus cloud appear in?

Cirrus clouds appear in the high level of clouds and are very wispy and made up of ice crystals.( all the facts in this category are from my science notes)

500

Where is the ionosphere?

It is the bottom part of the thermosphere.

(Sources for this subject is from out science text book)

500

How does an aneroid barometer work?

It has a air tight metal chamber that is sensitive to changes in air pressure. When air is thin the wall are pushed in. The opposite happens for thick air. This chamber is connected to a dial and springs and leversthat help show the air pressure on the dial.

( This information in this part is from our science textbook)

500

What is the equation for density?

Density= mass/volume
