Rolled coin, Cashiers checks, Unfit currency and Coin box(loose coin). As best practice if you have loose coin that is over the amount of a roll it should be rolled in a wrapper.

What are the required steps to open the branch?

Requires TWO team members

A team member must be present and must remain outside the branch before the authorized team member for the alarm system can enter the branch. 

Team Leader:

1. Survey the outside of the building to ensure there are no signs of a break-in. 

2. Verify that the all-clear signal was reset from the previous night before entering the branch. 

3. Immediately re-lock the door upon entering the branch. 

4. Turn off the alarm. 

5. Conduct a walk-through inspection of the branch to ensure that no one has gained access overnight and to ensure that it is safe for other team members to enter. Thoroughly inspect the following:

  • Work areas
  • Break rooms
  • Storage spaces
  • Restrooms

6. Set the all-clear signal to inform all branch team members that it is safe to enter the branch once everything is secure. 

Second Team Member 

1. Wait outside in an area away from the branch but where the front entrance is visible and can be observed.

2. Enter the branch only after the first team member has set the all-clear signal.

What are the required steps to closing the branch?

  1. Verify that all vaults are locked and cabinet locks are secured according to the Secured Items Storage Requirements procedures. 

  2. Ensure drawers with bait money are locked prior to closing and exiting the branch. 

  3. Scan the branch for any documents containing sensitive information, (e.g., Personal Identifiable Information [PII]) and ensure they are stored according to the Secured Items Storage procedures. 

  4. Thoroughly inspect the following areas, as accessible, to verify that no one remains in the branch:

    • Work areas
    • Break rooms
    • Storage spaces
    • Restrooms
  5. Ensure adequate lighting is on throughout the branch and the lobby.

    • Vault room and communications room lights must remain on in addition to the emergency lighting.
    • The lighting is needed in order to provide clear camera coverage and for the police to view into the branch.
  6. Ensure visibility into the branch by following the requirements for all the window shades/blinds.

  7. Reset the all-clear signal if there are no security issues.

  8. Activate the alarm.

  9. Lock all doors (e.g., front entrance, folding wall) leading to the branch lobby.

What's the timeframe to reopen a membership savings after it's been closed?

A member can reopen a membership account within 30 days of closing even if they are no longer within Navy Federal's field of membership. 

If the account has been closed for more than 30 days, the member must qualify for membership and new account must be opened.
