If you call in on your weekend to work, do you have to work the following weekend?

Yes! We have a weekend call in policy. If you call in on your weekend to work, you will be scheduled for the following weekend in any openings. Weekend call-ins place additional stress on the team and compromises resident care.

What are the first two steps you should do if there is a resident change in condition (*That isn't an emergency ex. cardiac arrest, chest pain, etc). 

1. Take a full set of vitals including pain scale. 

2. Call Deanna

*You shouldn't call the family until you have reached out to Deanna/Sera for direction.

Who may access PHI, or is okay to release PHI too?

Only the resident and legal representative, and/or for transitions of care. (Ex. ER report, report to skilled nursing, etc.)

What should you do if a resident falls, or is found on the ground, with no injury, and is too heavy for a safe 2 person assist?

Call 911 and ask for a lift assist.

What are the colors for the cognitive levels that are used for Memory Care Residents?

Green - cognitively intact

Gold - Mild to mod, mid stage dementia

Blue - severe cognitive impairment but physically able

Purple - severe cognitive impairment and max assist for ADLS

How many attendance points can you have in a year before termination?

6 unscheduled absences. the 7th is a termination. Please keep in mind, if you find your own coverage for a shift (this excludes management), it does not count as an attendance point. You can use the facebook page as a tool for coverage.

TRUE - and if toe nails are not manageable to do, Deanna needs to be  notified ASAP.

During resident meal times and/or 40 minutes before and after meals. 1st Shift - lunch breaks need to be completed by 11:15am.

True or False: Tidying up resident rooms daily is part of the RCA/Med Tech role?

 True! if you see trash, clean it up. Briefs and supplies on the floor? Put them in their place. Laundry all over the resident's apartment? Put them back into the closet. Resident's toilet is dirty? Get the toilet brush and clean it out after toileting.

What do you do if a physician comes in and is discussing a residents care with the resident in a common area?

Encourage them to meet and visit in a private area.

During your work hours, another employee swears at you, threatens you, or acts in a discriminatory manner. What do you do? and what disciplinary action can you face for that kind of behavior

You notify Sera immediately and write a communication sheet to document details, including statement from any witnesses. This kind of behavior is not tolerated and can result  in termination.  Note: Facility cameras will be installed soon.

When can you have your personal phone out while on the clock?

Only if you are using it to engage with residents. Ex. show pictures or videos, play music, look up facts or trivia, etc.

What steps should you take when a resident falls, before attempting to get them back up?

is it clear that it is an emergency? (bleeding, head injury, extreme pain,etc)? If yes, call 911. 

If it doesn't appear to be an emergency: get the resident as comfortable as possible, do a full range of motion and assess for any new injuries or bruising, if safe to get back up transfer to wheelchair/bed/recliner, complete a full set of vitals, then call Deanna.

Does the med room door or kitchen door that leads to med room on side 2, need to be closed at all times?

YES! PHI is kept in the med room as well as access to our tablets/laptops. It must be locked at all times. If med room door on side 2 is propped open, then the kitchen door must be closed and locked

You notice a team member completes an unsafe resident transfer, or they ask you to do so. What do you do?


Always follow the care plan. Kindly let your team member know how the transfer should happen per the care plan, and that you won't complete an unsafe transfer. Go check care plan together. Then transfer safely. If not resolved, ask another team member for assistance and complete a communication sheet.

What is the Simple Wishes program?

Every month a resident is  nominated for a simple wish. Examples - Tigers Game, Airplane ride, going to a favorite show or restaurant with family, etc.
