My grandmother was very proud of her Irish heritage, and she was determined to make sure her grandchildren grew up to be proud, too. Saint Patrick’s Day was very important to her. She had a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration each year. For her, it was a bigger holiday than Thanksgiving! When we drove up to her green house, the flag of Ireland was waving at us from the porch. As we walked up the sidewalk, we could hear the Irish music. Grandma usually greeted us at the door, dancing a little jig. As we entered the house, we immediately smelled thestrong aroma of corned beef and cabbage simmering on the stove. Once all eight grand kids arrived, we ate our Irish meal. We didn’t like the corned beef and cabbage much, but we all devoured our Irish soda bread, green shamrock shakes, and shamrock-shaped cookies. Then we unwrapped our green gifts, and we listened to grandma tell her stories about Ireland- stories that had been passed down through many generations. Saint Patrick’s Day at my grandmother’s house was a special day. Grandma has been gone for a few years now, but when March 17th arrives each year, I remember our special day at Grandma’s house each Saint Patrick’s Day.

The first step in training your dog to be obedient is to teach it boundaries. For example, many dogs become excited when visitors come to the home. Your dog may bark at visitors or jump to greet them. While this behavior may be friendly, it can potentially annoy certain visitors. The best course of action is to ask visitors to ignore your dog during the first five minutes of their visit. Then, once your dog is calm, visitors can give it attention and affection. This way, your dog will learn to behave itself around guests.

Based on the passage, what does the author believe about dog training?

PLEASE... no more pinching!! Saint Patrick’s Day seems like an okay holiday. However, I wouldn’t know. I celebrated my first Saint Patrick’s Day last year. I had lived in the United States for about two months. Sadly, when March 17th arrived, I assumed that it was like any other school day. I had no idea that I was supposed to wear green that day. As a result, I endured a long, painful day of my classmates pinching me. It was the worst day ever! Now that I’ve lived in the United States for nearly a year, I know a little more about the holiday. I know that the holiday was first started to honor this man named Saint Patrick, and that he was kind priest who cared for the people of Ireland. I truly do not believe that this man would agree with the idea of people inflicting pain on others just because they are not wearing a certain color. But, please, stop pinching people that do NOT wear green!

Oh, no!!!!! It’s Saint Patrick’s Day, and I forgot to wear green, she thought to herself. She looked down at her clothes. Surely there was some small patch of green somewhere on her clothes. Nothing. Zilch. Nada.

I have something for just this sort of emergency.” The teacher reached into her desk and pulled out a shamrock necklace and some green nail polish. “How fast can you paint your nails?
