It is best to choose topics on anything the student needs help or more practice. Tutorials are to help students achieve success in rigorous coursework.

How many binders does an AVID student need?

One 2 to 3 inch binder.  Some AVID elective teachers also accept an accordion file system as well as eBinders (online binders). The focus is to find an organizational tool that works.

What is a TRF?  What does TRF stand for?

A TRF (Tutorial Request Form) is the pre-work required as preparation for tutorials. Depending on the AVID class, students will have one to two TRFs due each week.

Students need to take focused notes in all academic classes including mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, the AVID elective class, foreign language, and any other classes requiring reading and writing.

A completed TRF and resources related to the topic:   focused notes from that class, homework, quiz with missed questions, textbook, anything that will help them find solutions.
