What is a DRA?
It is short for Development Reading Assessment. I use this assessment to know what your child's reading level is!
What is this book?
Envision! It is our math program that we will be using!
What is class dojo?
A point system I use to give positive reinforcement throughout the day! Once your child gets 100 points, they get to pick from the prize box!

Star of the Week! We will start this at near the end of September!
Do I have any children? If so, how many?
What is our phonics program called?
Fundations! Fundations has a cool approach to teach our phonics rules (sounds) to help decode and encode words. This helps students grow in reading and spelling!
What is this chart for?
Centers! After each math lesson, the students go to a center to practice skills/concepts of what they have been learning about!
What is this bucket used for?
To fill a bucket! This is my classroom management style to give positive reinforcement in real time. Once they empty the big bucket, they get to vote on a class reward!
Do I give homework?
No!
What is my favorite drink?
Coffee! (Got to be school appropriate)
What are sight words?
Sight Words are words that we constantly see in early level books. I do an assessment on sight words throughout the year to see if you child is picking up these words. This helps will their reading level growth.
Do I give math assessments?
Yes! At the end of each topic, we do an assessment on the topic. I will keep you posted on how your child is doing on each topic!
Who is this guy?
Goku! He is one of my action figures to give positive reinforcement. He goes to a student and gets to watch them learn if they are being a professional!

What is something we might write about in first grade?
We write a lot, but we focus on topics like personal narratives, how to stories, letters, persuasive writing, and non-fiction writing (research/facts).
Do we use chromebooks?
Yes! Each student has one and will be using them during center time for both ELA and Math by going on reading or math websites to help retain skills/concepts that we are learning about!
What is free time?
Free time is a chance for the students to just play. My style is that if you do the work, you get to play after. It is another way to motivated students and to reward them for their hard work.
What will be the first class party we will have?
Halloween! We will have class parties again this year so we will need volunteers!
